For those that enjoy wine and only have the bare-bones openers and glasses to enjoy them with, this is a great mid-range quality set to have or to gift to someone.Everything arrived in a nice-looking giftable box that describes all of the pieces, though nothing was included in the set that would be practical to use for storage of these pieces.Pros - It comes with two reusable stoppers which work together with a vacuum pump which does actually seem to help wine stay fresher longer, so for infrequent drinkers this could potentially save you some money in the long run, or for others at least preserve a better flavor for longer. The vacuum pump device is simple and very easy to use - much simpler though probably not quite as effective as those expensive and more complicated systems I have seen that inject inert gas into the bottle. It also comes with a good lever corkscrew opener that - like most decent lever corkscrew openers - makes opening a bottle fast and effortless. The aerator is also a simple but effective device that easily and snugly fits to the top of a wine bottle so you can pour aerated wine straight from the bottle to the glass with little effort and no extra hands involved.I taste-tested a Bordeaux and a relatively bold Pinot Noir both with and without the aerator and I can say that both myself and my friend could detect a noticeable "opening up" and smoothing of flavor using this aerator. I also compared this aerator to a Vinturi-style aerator with the same Bordeaux wine and I would say that maybe the Vinturi-style aerator did a slightly better job but it was very hard to tell the difference between them. Between the two aerators I would in most cases choose thise Vacu Vin aerator for all but the most special of wines because of its ease of use.Cons - While everything seems to be of good quality and I think will last a long time, the set overall looks and "feels" more practical than luxurious. The two stoppers are basically high quality plastic and rubber and have no decorative value. The vacuum pump works fine but just looks like a hunk of black plastic. The lever corkscrew does look pretty nice but it's nothing overly fancy. And the aerator does a good job but a bottle of wine doesn't look quite as nice with a big plastic aerator sitting on top of it.Recommend that you rinse the aerator soon after use to avoid difficulty cleaning after it has dried out. The aerator LOOKS like it can be easily opened up for cleaning but the plastic clips on either side don't easily bend and I stopped trying for fear that I might break them.Also, the corkscrew is pretty sharp which is a good thing but you may want to keep it covered. You can keep the original plastic sleeve that covered the corkscrew, or if you lost the sleeve then maybe you can keep it embedded in a cork for protection if you feel that's necessary.
