I haven’t fragmented a cork with this wine opener. The double-hinging makes a huge difference once you get the hang of it.Definitely one of the standards in the service industry. As many bottles as we open at the restaurant, this is absolutely recommended to anyone, work or home.As a bartender, I enjoy true tap wine openers. But my local store stopped carrying them. I was hesitant to order these after reading reviews of receiving knock offs, but these seem to be correct. I drink a lot of wine so I picked up a couple of these and a couple of the black Pulltap's on Amazon. Don't even bother with the Pulltap's. I don't think they are genuine, and if they are, they don't live up to the hype and this Truetap is much better quality (in particular the knife, which is functionally a butterknife on the Pulltap's).My single gripe is that the white Truetap comes with a weird logo on the spine, mine said "Jackson's". Other purchasers have noted random logos on theirs as well. I actually purchased the black "soft-touch" Truetap as well, and I prefer it to this one, partially because the soft-touch has a nice feel to it, but mostly because there is no weird logo.If it weren't for the fact that True Fabrications has so many other functional, sturdy and beautiful corkscrews at around the $10 mark this would get a 5 star rating.These corkscrews are great for occasional home use, emergency backups or just plain cheap corkscrews you aren't afraid to lose. Many manufacturers use this basic design, some get it right, some get it horribly wrong. They've gotten it mostly right but done so with what always feels like a sturdy product.Design wise they're essentially identical to the more expensive pull taps corkscrews and the cheap $1-2 corkscrews that wineries often have made. The differences come from the details. All of the parts are sturdy and in place, there isn't any wobble in the worm or the blade. The blade while no different in basic style than the others is actually sharp enough to cut the foil which is a refreshing change from cheaper ones that basically just rip.There's only two flaws that I've encountered. 1) The bottle opener is backwards for me, although there's only one manufacturer that flips the opener around. 2) I've never noticed it on others, but the red one I just received has paint missing and smudged as if it were handled too soon before the pain cured.If you're looking for a cheap corkscrew or several, these are a great option, and I trust the quality of true fabrications products.
